The Break Effekt: Enhancing Learning, Focus and Wellbeing
Location and date
Graz (Austria), 22 – 26 June 2026
Can you remember the times of the pandemic, when we could not meet anybody in person and teaching took place mainly online? For alp, this was an important moment to reflect on the importance of social connection and of the informal time we spend together, so we decided to explore this in an Erasmus+ Project.
We – in alp – missed these breaks in between, where we could – as learners – digest learnings, relax among friends and colleagues and maybe have the most fantastic ideas for future projects.
This seminar is an opportunity to learn and experience the magic of well-organised informal moments. We will exchange, discuss and delve into the topic of how you can organise free time that supports learning, connection and relaxation of participants during informal time, in your on-site and online settings.
In detail you will
- Discuss what informal moments in your settings are
- Learn what happens in your mind when you do nothing (Neuro-Science)
- Talk about resources and how they support learning, relaxation and connection
- Learn about the main elements of informal moments including time and venue
- Explore in what way the teacher, trainer, facilitator can influence breaks
- Share what influence the different learners – pupils, students, adults – have on informal moments
- Visit an education setting, where you can discuss experiences with other pedagogues
- Return home with motivation, energy and new international contacts
We see trainers and teachers as architects of the educational times. As these architects, you are not only teaching and facilitating content, but you create space and time, where insights, learning, connection and memorising happen. This includes informal moments – before and after the seminar and in the breaks – as they are important cornerstones of the learning architecture.
Course approach and methodology
The idea of this workshop is to create a space for teachers, coaches, facilitators, trainers and school directors for sharing and learning. There will be room for discussions about the practice of informal moments from different countries. Further, you will explore tools and interventions useful for creating a meaningful break.
The course consists of a mix of short theoretical inputs, concrete exercises, group discussions and individual moments. At the same time the workshop builds on the experience of the participants and they are invited to share from their practice.
Group size is limited to 12 participants in order to facilitate meaningful exchange.
This seminar is built on the results of the Erasmus+ Project iMotion – informal moments in adult education, which explored informal moments after the Covid-period. You can find more information about the project here.
